APTIS Preparation for Teachers: A Realistic Plan
Teachers are often asked to prove their English level through APTIS, sometimes in a version designed with teaching contexts. Because teachers are busy, a realistic plan matters more than an intensive one.
Know what you need
Ask your employer or ministry which APTIS version you need, which skills are required and the target CEFR level.
A six-week plan
Week 1: take a practice test to identify your weakest skill.
Weeks 2 and 3: grammar and vocabulary core, plus reading and listening practice.
Weeks 4 and 5: writing tasks and recorded speaking practice with feedback.
Week 6: full timed practice tests and review.
Tips for teachers
Use classroom topics in your speaking and writing practice: lesson planning, student behaviour, parent meetings.
Practise speaking into a microphone against a timer.
Don't over-correct yourself while speaking; fluency counts.
Common mistakes
Spending too long on early questions.
Writing too little or going off-topic.
Ignoring the grammar and vocabulary core.
Time management
Note how long each part takes in practice and plan your pace. Move on from difficult questions and come back if time allows.
