How to Evaluate an IELTS Preparation Course Before You Enrol

2 min read

There are many options in Kuwait, but not every IELTS course is built the same way. Some explain the test format and leave you alone with the practice; others build the training around your target score and your weaknesses. These criteria help you tell them apart before you pay.

Seven criteria for judging a course

  1. It starts with a real diagnosis: a placement or practice test, then a clear recommendation on route and length.

  2. Individual feedback on Writing and Speaking: specific notes on your mistakes, not general comments like "improve your grammar".

  3. Regular practice tests: under real timing, with every mistake reviewed.

  4. Teachers who know the marking criteria: they can explain your band and what moves you to the next one.

  5. A plan tied to your target: a student who needs 6.0 doesn't need the same plan as one aiming for 7.5.

  6. Flexible attendance: in person or online to fit your schedule, as long as the feedback is the same in both.

  7. Clear cost and length: what the price includes, how many lessons, and what happens if you need extra time.

Questions to ask before enrolling

  • How will you assess my level and weaknesses?

  • How many writing tasks will be marked for me, and by whom?

  • How many full practice tests will I do during the course?

  • Are groups organised by level and target score?

Warning signs

  • A promised score before anyone knows your level.

  • Relying on writing templates instead of building your English.

  • No assessment at the start or end of the course.

At London College UK we start with a free consultation and placement test, then suggest the route that fits your target. See our IELTS preparation course in Kuwait.

Frequently asked questions

Not necessarily. Compare the amount of individual feedback and the number of practice tests, because those are what raise your score.

If the gap is large, start with a general English course and then move on to test preparation.

It depends on the gap between your level and your target, which a placement test shows.
